Jovan Holden To All Instructors

Jovan brings over 20 years of combined experience in the science and education fields. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Biology from Virginia Tech. Before transitioning to full-time homeschooling and family life, Jovan worked as a Wetland Ecologist for
The Nature Conservancy's Virginia Aquatic Resources Trust Fund. Her previous roles also include working in the Virginia Water Protection Program at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and serving as an environmental consultant, where she conducted wetland and stream delineations, endangered species surveys, and mitigation site monitoring. She also served as a Park Interpreter at Bear Creek Lake State Park, where she led environmental education programs for both children and adults.
Her experience extends beyond Virginia—Jovan also worked as a Restoration Assistant at The Nature Conservancy's Blowing Rocks Preserve in Jupiter, Florida. There, she managed the native plant nursery, coordinated the volunteer program, and assisted with sea turtle rescue efforts. In addition to her professional work, Jovan has dedicated herself to education in various community roles. She has homeschooled her own daughters and spent the past six years volunteering as a Unit Leader with the American Heritage Girls, teaching and mentoring girls aged 5 to 16. She also served Midlothian Baptist Church for five years by providing biblical education to pre-K children. Jovan is passionate about connecting young learners with the Glory and Majesty of God through learning about the natural world and fostering curiosity, stewardship, and a love of science through hands-on learning. Her passion for Christ-centered education is central to both her teaching and parenting. Jovan is committed to raising her daughters with a strong biblical foundation and considers it a privilege to help provide that same foundation to other students.
